These are almost entirely set in the concrete setting of the real line and Euclidean spaces, although there is some material on abstract metric and topological spaces. The book also has appendices on mathematical logic and the decimal system. The entire text (omitting some less central topics) can be taught in two quarters of 25–30 lectures each. The course material is deeply intertwined with the exercises, as it is intended that the student actively learn the material (and practice thinking and writing rigorously) by proving several of the key results in the theory.

Terence "Terry" Chi-Shen Tao, FAA FRS, is an Australian mathematician. His areas of interests are in harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, algebraic combinatorics, arithmetic combinatorics, geometric combinatorics, compressed sensing and analytic number theory. As of 2015, he holds the James and Carol Collins chair in mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Professor Tao is a co-recipient of the 2006 Fields Medal and the 2014 Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics. You know, I'm honestly surprised that this book has not been adopted at colleges and universities other than UCLA. I've read all the analysis books on the market at this point, Rudin, Johnsonbaugh, Abbott and Ross, and to be honest, this particular book stands out among the others in that none of the content of this book is a regurgitation of memorized content. So many instructors, graduate students and textbooks simply memorize their material without questioning it, and then regurgitate the "industry standard, or accepted standard" methods in textbooks they write, and this is apparent if you read enough books. But Tao is different. You won't find a single reference to another book, and you won't find a single standard proof. Instead, what you'll see is exactly what and how Terrance Tao himself understands the concepts he writes about, and every proof and explanation is 100% original. The benefits of this is that you will never be questioning why something is the way it is since Tao personally goes out of his way to thoroughly explain every little darn thing inside and out with an obvious complete mastery over the subject. And along the way he challenges students to stop memorizing theorems, and rather, to start understanding them. I love this.

This book may not have the normal flavor of other analysis books. But it is by no means inferior. Especially if you are more of an algebra brain than an analysis brain, this book transfers you safely from your familiar world of algebra to that of analysis. Rudin will be more accessible afterwards.

This is the best Mathematical Analysis book I know.Wonderful!!!

This isn't a reference text, this is a book meant to be read from beginning to end. If you are the type of person who likes to start from first principles then this is the book for you. There are no answers, but for the most part I didn't need them. A lot of the difficult problems are often broken down hence almost everything is manageable.Note: If you are currently in the middle of a real analysis class then this book likely isn't for you. By the time you get to page 90 you start to cover the same content most analysis books start to cover at around page 20-25. You NEED to start from the beginning to get the most from Tao's brilliant introduction to real analysis.Most real analysis books assume you have an understanding of the basics (sets, number systems, functions, etc). Tao does too, but he also assumes your understanding of the material is unrefined and hand-wavy at best and takes the opportunity to construct everything from the ground up. You start with the notion of an object, using this you define the Peano axioms and construct the natural number, as well as define what addition and multiplication are. After you take a detour and construct what is essentially Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory (axiom of choice comes much later near the end of the book). At around page 79 you define what subtraction is. Finally, at page 94 you begin your construction of the reals.Don't let the definition-proposition/lemma-proof style scare you. As you start by constructing everything from the ground up you are at no point confused as to what you need to do--the first principles approach gives you a sense of clarity you won't get from other books.I highly recommend some learning aids such spaced repetition (I used ANKI) and concept mapping. As you start from the very beginning there is quite a lot to take in hence without a way to organize your thoughts and revise you will easily find yourself forgetting things from the start.

This book is extremely well written. I'd recommend it for everyone who wants to learn basics of analysis extremely well. I cannot think of such a book that goes to this fundamendal level of material as this one.

My 7 year old daughter (2nd grade) got this set for Christmas, as recommended by a friend. She does not want to put the set down!! She loves these books. It's great because there are a ton of photos, but good reading too. She thinks the books are funny and I am just thrilled she found something that she loves to read! I was looking for the perfect transitional series for her since she is no longer in the board book/picture book phase, but stepping into a more grown up reading style. I'm one happy mama! BUY THIS SERIES! You won't regret it.

My 8 year old daughter LOVES Sisters and Smile. We gave her the box set for Christmas and she has already read them both twice. I love that these books have her wanting to turn off the television and her other electronics so she can read them - again. I love that they also have her wanting to be an illustrator someday.

We bought these for my daughter for Christmas and she finished them (plus Ghosts and Drama) in a day or two. She has read them over and over since then, to herself and her younger sister. She loves Raina Telgemeier's books and they are very positive, and very real. My daughter relates to them incredibly well.

awesome graphic novels! my 8-year-old daughter keeps reading and re-reading these. And they were perfect beginner-reading books, as you could understand the story even if the kid doesn't have the reading skills all the way down.

My daughter is hooked on the author. She's turning 8 and I was worried some of the themes would be over her head, but as always she surprised me and asked me thoughtful questions. She loved the book, finished it in 2 nights, and it provided great discussion opportunities for the both of us.

My ten year old adores this author! She teaches about things that are relevant to young girls in today’s world. My daughter isn’t a big fan of reading but she’ll sit and read any of her books front cover to cover in one sitting! She’s in love with this collection and I hope to see more from her very soon!

My 8 yo enjoyed reading both books (she had just gotten braces and she has a younger sister). She enjoyed the humor and could relate to the frustrations of having a younger sibling. It was easy for her to read as a graphic novel. She's has asked for more books from the author. Older nieces have said the same.

I got this set after one of the kids brought home Smile as the book from reading group. Both kids began to argue about who got to read it. Upon delivery of the set, each took a book and read it that evening. They've since read each multiple times. Fantastic books!

It is hard to write a positive review when the subject is so very negative. The book is beyond good, it is necessary ... a true "must read" if you care what is happening to our country at the hands of a nefarious few. Abysmal and mean is too good a rating for the money grubbing cretins who control us ... and they do control us ... beyond any doubt, this will confirm the degree with which we are manipulated and being destroyed. There is little we can do except prepare. How you prepare will have to be up to you. This is not a "Buy Gold" book, nor does it suggest investment schemes, it is simply reality and it is scary!

This book was recommended to me, it sounded interesting, and I found it on Amazon. It explains how the modern monetary system was created, in secrecy, and how it works. It posits that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand would have probably led only to a minor war between Austria and Serbia if the world's bankers stayed out of it. Instead, they financed the armament of the participants for a full-blown world war for their own enrichment. Key concept: As long as governments will back you, through income derived from taxation, the major banks of the world powers can write checks to anyone or any government for any amount of "money", for any purpose, and they make a financial killing. Another one: Credit Unions are able to give you a mortgage loan like Jimmy Stewart in "Its a Wonderful Life" by using the cash savings deposits of other members, in their vaults. Modern Federally Charted "Banks" do not do that. They are simply able to write a check to the seller of the home, and the buyer repays the bank. There is nothing backing the loan in terms of money in the bank's vault. It is all "credit".The Banks use their financial power to influence governments to insure the status quo. It's a short book. It is heavily footnoted. I read it with an open mind. Its worth reading.
