This book was obviously written by someone from China; the names, customs, culture, emphasis on rank or position of influence, the way of speaking, the use of full names every time they are used and many other things stand out glaringly as being from a foreign culture. The translation to English is poor in quality and seems to be done by someone who speaks Chinese as a first language and English as a poor second, requiring you the reader to fill in missing words and substitute more appropriate words and phrasing to help it make sense. There is a very narrow range of idioms, unusual over the top adjectives, inappropriate metaphors, and laughable jargon that leaves the reader feeling like he is wading through a poorly translated user manual for a Chinese electronics product. The author seldom uses a sentence where he can put in a paragraph or two to say the same thing. The book is very short covering too small a period of time, I assume so he can sell more books. That said, if you can get past the ridiculous presentation, the story is really quite entertaining, unique and well worth the effort; it kept me coming back in anticipation for the next book in the series.
This is a fun read if you are fans of translated Chinese LitRPG style stories. It is wonderful fun watching the protagonist pull the wool over the eyes of a bunch of arrogant enemies.It has one thing however that has held me back from granting it 5 starts. That is that there is never much variety in the antagonists. They are always the same formula. Arrogant narcissists who would kill thousands over the fact that someone doesn't kowtow fast enough. Its fun at first but has become old now and I wish we could see some enemies that are a bit more fleshed out and have some variety as a protagonist only shines when he is paired against a worthy villian.
This is my favorite reincarnation story - and that's saying a lot, considering there are several strong entries in this genre. A few things that this author does particularly well:- the game mechanics, system, are top-notch: logical, consistent, believable & challenging.- the way the MC manages to exploit his 2nd chance to the max; it's enjoyable if you like to feed your inner greedy pig- great guild & city building, and good economic component.- one of the best integrations between the virtual world and real world, and vice-versa. The only negative, so far, in this aspect, is that there are no negative consequences for the MC in real-life even though when he goes against very powerful people (in both game & real life) in the game. I suspect the author will address this later and the MC is currently protected by anonymity...but it's already a stretch that the enemies he's made so far in the game haven't found and harassed him in real life.- comparing and contrasting: what's the point an awesome MC, weapons, armor, mounts, etc..., if you can't paint a clear, crisp picture of what that means? The author does a fantastic job of this. I've never seen anyone come close. (other) Authors: read, learn, and emulate - give us more of this goodness, please :)Lastly, it doesn't have a strong Chinese flavor. Kind of like Sword Art Online, you could have made minor changes and the setting would be western.
I love this series so much the MC can put such heart in everything he does while bending the world over his knee without that making it boring or unconvincing, please translate faster !! Thank you
I have read several Russian books about being trapped in a game or playing a game to make money. I liked the cultural differences in this series and am waiting on the next books.
