Before reading this book, I knew little about chakras. I found this to be an easy-to-read book. It’s very interesting to learn about energy. I learned so many things about the seven chakras and appreciated the value of them. Each chakra was explained well by the author. Author Michael Williams did well in describing what happens when one or more of the chakras are not flowing productively. The prayer and mantra really worked and the remedies for chakras were really good. I love the meditations and affirmations the most. Now I use this book for reference a lot. This book is useful for anyone who tries to understand how chakras work. If you are a beginner of chakra and want to know more of it, this is the book for you.

Very specific and to the point, easily read. I'm not that much of a beginner, I basically opened my chakras with chakra-based mantras and I crossed imbalance problems due to me neglecting my Chakra's thinking that it'll fix itself, well. Now I can fix every issue and go on by my day. Anyone that haves an issue with opening or balancing Chakra's must buy this book! It's useful either way, and it even talks about empowering your third eye, which there are many, many ways and this one is remarkable. I've seen spirits, talked to them, now I may be able to create a bigger clear picture of that. Thank you <3

Wonderful book for beginners wanting to work with chakras and finding out basic info about the chakras. I have always been fascinated with chakras and energy work, and found this book to be very useful. Love the meditations and affirmations in one chapter. Great read!

Michael Williams is a phenomenal author. As a massage therapist and energy worker, I have been studying chakras for a decade now, and finding a book that is so thorough and complete on the subject is refreshing and satisfying. The only thing I wish the book included was visuals on chakras. Other than that, Michael has covered this subject in great detail and the book was a joy to read and will be a valuable reference in my library.

LOVE it.!!! still reading. learning different chakra points in the body and what it does. I am able to have more control over my emotions and actually feel better every day and understanding why taking care of my body and using the right energy flow will leave to a longer lasting and fulfilled life!

This book seemed a bit amateurish in the writing and some formatting, but wow was it informative. I felt like I could create major charts from all the information. I will read some of his other books.

I thought it was a great starter guide. Not to much info just enough to get you started in learning about chakra energy.

Loved it!!I literally finished it in less than 30 minutes. So simplem and to the point.I definitely recommend it for people who don't have time or don't like reading long books that goes off in the history instead of what you actually want to know.

This is a challenging but rewarding book. When I first took it up it felt like an odd choice - while I was drawn to the idea of the nocturnal it seemed that this book would address no more than an odd little niche in the vast world of art. So wrong, (or at least so shortsighted), but so happily corrected. We start with Whistler, who came along after the vast and majestic western landscapes of the 1830's, and who embraced the nocturne as a form of pure painting unrelated to any representation of the "real" world. From these "tonal" paintings and nightscapes, which might be said to mark the beginning of interest in the nocturnal, the narrative moves on to later paintings, photographs, prints, and even advertising and popular media. What is the appeal of night imagery, and how does it connect with everything from the spread of electric lighting to growing social anxiety? We tend to take nighttime for granted or to ignore it, but for most of history, including American history, night was a palpable force in the routines of life. As daily life changed, as electricity changed the way we lived in and looked at the world, and as modernity transformed the landscapes so beloved by Hudson School painters, the nocturne was a reaction, a veil, a melancholy reminder of a simpler past, and an ambiguous and ambivalent commentary on the unknown future. You can get a little too cute with all of this; by equating nocturnes with "darkness", which can be a metaphor for anything you want, you can pretty much make any arguments and draw any conclusions you care to. I finally concluded that, in addition to the art history, the fact that this book gets you thinking along such lines, and offers you plenty of material to work with and think about, may be its best feature. This all sounds like it could be tedious or too polemical to be entertaining, and sometimes it is, but Valance is generally a knowledgeable, amiable and persuasive guide. Over 150 well chosen and faithfully reproduced drawings and prints illustrate Valance's points. While some connections and themes are fanciful, labored, and unconvincing, (nocturnes being a statement of "social whiteness" because race relations are a matter of light and dark, for example, and all nocturnes are implicitly racial metaphors), the larger discussion of nocturnes is generally thought provoking and skillfully laid before the reader. Insights regarding the switch over time from rural nightscapes to urban nightscapes are especially noteworthy. That said, this book leans more to the academic/scholarly side than to the popular side, which means that there is some heavy footnoting, some insider score settling, occasional esoteric jargon, and other scholarly trappings. Thankfully, that never gets in the way of the larger story and did not prove to be an obstacle to at least this non-academic reader. My bottom line - simply as an interesting art history book this works well. The artworks are well described, well placed, and well linked by the narrative. I finished with a better informed and deeper appreciation of night scenes, moonlit landscapes, nocturnes, and the like. As a social history, the author draws numerous apt and insightful connections between the art and its larger social context that prompt and reward further thought. I don't see how you can ask for much more than that, and I ended up happy with this choice.(Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

This is an interesting looking at the portrayal of Night in American Art and the broader social issues. I enjoyed reading the book but I did find it slow going. I read an ecopy of the book and some of the illustrations did not show up well. This book should be read slowly and in a hard copy format. Anyone with an interest in American art and American history at the turn of the century will enjoy this book.

#979 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

This book has some good ideas and tools, but it lacks focus and feels forced. My impression is that Goldsmith wanted to put out another book but didn't have a way to fit his ideas together, so this reads like a series of independent--or perhaps loosely related--ideas with no central organizing structure. There is lots here that isn't exactly relevant to behavior change, he goes off on tangents to fill space, and the end sputters out like a runner trying desperately to reach the finish line (in this case, enough material for a book.. While I definitely took away some interesting and potentially helpful information, it read more like someone just wanted to have product for his seminars and workshops (which he freely admits is his passion and primary interest). Very self-congratulatory and promotional.

Advertising pays: I need to give a shout-out to Jim Kouzes for his posting the cover of Triggers on Facebook. Within thirty minutes of that post, I had ordered my copy! This book deserves a mark that exceeds five stars. This book informed, it educated, it impressed, it entertained, and it induced action. I am in the fourth week of assessing my progress toward six personal, behavioral goals (patience, under-controlling of situations, less judgmental/evaluative, more lovingly supportive of my wife, more at peace, and in less of a hurry). I use the charting process suggested by Marshall, and I have created a weekly scoring sheet on which my wife is to give me grade my progress.Readers might not be impressed with this process, but this is the first time that I have consciously and systematically worked toward important personal/interpersonal goal-improvement. As a licensed user of the MBTI, I have known since 1984 that I have needed to work on some of my ENFJ-behaviors that did not serve me well at times. Marshall’s coaching-in-the-book, his powerful examples of behavior change shared, and the usable resources all combine to compel a reader to take action and make personal progress, so that we might be more effective human beings. After four weeks, this writer is a more peaceful, patient person from the beginning of each day. My wife and I are having more fun. My urge to “drive the bus” all the time has been significantly reduced, and I am in less of a hurry. Marshall’s focus on progress, I think has been key: “Did I do my best to . . .?” Over time, the focus has become a habit, like a good health habit! And, why not?! Yes, I’ll regress on a variable, and I’ll “own it” and simply choose to get back on the horse the next day and go forward.Marshall gets it: He realizes that he cannot be effective unless his clients are! He is exemplary in this regard, and he relentlessly and proactively journeys toward being a better leader/coach.Marshall also models brilliantly, a client-centered/collaborative coaching style as he works with others. He asks the necessary and provocative questions that others need to face if they are to be more effective going forward. There was just one chapter that fell just a tiny bit short, for me personally. Chapter 16, “Behaving Under the Influence of Depletion”, deals with our behaviors and the outcomes of decisions made when our physical/mental/emotional energy is low. In addition to Marshall’s suggestions in this chapter, the reader might benefit from three topics that might help them and others be more personally effective: personality (introverts), mood theory, and general wellness. Introverts need to give extra time for reflection and self-care before entering their after-hours dwellings and interacting with others, even their pets. Introvert Power by Laurie Helgoe is just one book that offers practical suggestions for helping introverts be more personally/interpersonally effective. Helgoe specifically offers proactive ideas for helping deal with the current culture of interruption in our daily lives. For mood theory, The Origin of Everyday Moods by Robert Thayer provides resources and research that can make us aware on an hourly basis whether we are “tired” or “energized”. From that point, we can then determine what our next courses of action need to be to be for greater effectiveness going forward. For example, “extreme” extroverts who are tense-tired near the end of a workday are apt to say or do things that would likely not happen when filled with calm-energy. For overall wellness, Candace Pert’s book, Everything You Need to Feel Good, offers an insightful look at her personal journey regarding the successful resolution of health issues, the latest mind/body-research, and good recommendations regarding websites and authors whose contributions might be beneficial. In Triggers, Marshall Goldsmith did everything possible to make real and positive behavioral differences for his readers. He certainly made differences that I think will be both positive and lasting for me and for those with whom I interact. Thank you, sir!

I've made it to the point, after 20 plus years in the same retail business, of co-owning a company. As a person prone to dark moments and fearless angry outbursts I later regret, I have been a longtime seeker of anything that can help me better handle interactions with the people in my life, family, co-workers, employees, customers, etc. I remember, years ago thinking, if I could just gain space between the thing that pushed my buttons and my reaction I would be better off. I would cause less pain to others, I would not be so tortured with regret. This book not only spells out the patterns of trigger/behavior but literally gives you the map of how to rewire the patterns. How to open the space and choose behavior rather than drop into automatic reaction. So grateful to have found this book. Will read it until it is absolutely ingrained in my being, until it is my nature. Can't wait!

I really enjoyed this book. I'm becoming more self-aware and I think Mr. Goldsmith brings in a very unique dialogue where he is transparent about his struggles while giving us the steps he's recognized as important to becoming a better you. Many people say "become a better you," but this book illustrates just how many small things can create the bigger picture of being more comfortable with who you are as a person. It's incredible! Each page taught me something new, or reworded something I knew in a way that made it hit home. Whether or not you think you want to change, Mr. Goldsmith will teach you how you can change when you want to.

This book is about human behavior, its logic, and how the triggers of the enviroment make it so hard to change! As M. Goldsmith clearly paints it, change in adult behavior is one of the hardest things to accomplish. For that reason, it's very important to understand how the environment conspires to trigger our emotional and automatic worst behaviors! He gives sound advice on how to identify and overcome those triggers to be the very best version of ourselves. Change is possible if you understand the enviroment and manage to influence it before it influences your very human and damaging reactions! Very recommended!

I used this book throughout DH school-- it has absolutely everything you need to know regarding clinical hygiene, patient care, and all of the ins and outs of being a dental hygienist. I sold my school copy, but then decided to re-purchase a copy of this book later on for reference. The layout of the book is very organized and detailed, and includes visuals on nearly every page. The information in this book is also used for National Boards. Very handy to have!

The text is quite small and there's not really a break between subjects in the same chapter. It repeats a lot of the same things throughout the book, but that is also a good thing too. Wish it was more detailed in pathology area.

I had purchased the book brand new since I needed the access code to work, the book is bent and damaged on all corners when I received the book. So it does not look like it was purchased new. Disappointed.

As described. A good reference for the student.

GREAT BOOK

Just as described! Thank you :D

A wonderful book showing how parenting trends among royal families have developed and changed over the past 1000 years. I particularly enjoyed how Harris linked the chapters by filling in a bit about how the families were connected at the end of a chapter. My only wish were that it was a much longer book - with more families and more information included - I didn't want the book to end.

Lots of historically based international anecdotes and perspectives on parenting over hundreds of years of royalty. Definitely recommend it even for the casual student of history.

Unexpected very good book and good writing style.

This is a wonderful book that follows 20 European royal couples and their parenting styles as seen by the public. It discusses each European ruler and the relationships they had with their spouses and their children Often, it was found that the mother was very protective of her children and does all she can to promote them in the eyes of their father. In addition, many female children were placed in convents and the males were placed in the homes of barons and church leaders for them to complete their education.Early generations of royal children saw very little of their parents for different reasons. Many parents did not want to be burdened with the day-to-day needs of their children. They also had royal duties that required their attention.I found it fascinating how each of the royal couples had differing views of raising their children which sometimes made for sorrow for some mothers who weren’t allowed to be with their children. These families had large numbers of children up to 14 and more. Sadly, many of them never survived infancy.I liked how the book included each ruler and the political beliefs of each of them. There were also big differences between families due to religious beliefs. The Catholic and Protestant faiths caused lots of friction. The impact of this on the children was huge resulting in anger and even death. If I was a writer, I would want to have this book close by as a reference novel as it is chock full of lots of great facts about the 1000 years it covers. Just to read the book is enlightening for anyone and I highly recommend it. I also commend the author for her incredible work in writing this great reference book.I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Raising Royalty : 1000 Years of Royal Parenting by Carolyn Harris takes a unique view of European history through the lenses of twenty royal couples and their children. Harris is a professor with a PhD in European History whose writings on the history of royalty in the U.K. and Europe have appeared in the form of books and articles in notable publications such as the Smithsonian and the BBC News Magazine so she knows whereof she speaks. It was a fascinating and very readable book, but also very well researched and documented. I think It will also be valued by libraries as a good reference source on this topic in future years. It begins in the year 968 with Edgar the Peaceable and Elfrida of Northampton and ends with William and Kate and their two children George and Charlotte in the twenty-second century. The book examines many other fascinating royal parents in between including Britain's William the Conqueror, Henry VIII, Victoria and Albert, and Charles and Diana. Russia's Peter the Great and Nicholas and Alexandra also make the list as do France's Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Did you know that the Dutch Queen Julianna and her family lived in Canada during World War II when the Nazis invaded Holland? Imagine being her child growing up in Canada and then having to return to the Netherlands just after it was ravaged during WWII. Stories of intrigue and power flow through the pages of this book as do stories of domesticity and love. If you are fascinated by European history or royalty or parenting or all of the above you will enjoy this book! Thank you Dundern Publishing and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

Go Long! CHAPTER ONETHE NEW “STRAW” “I’M BREAKIN’ THIS ONE BIG-TIME, RONDE!” Ronde Barber stared back at his identical twin as they faced each other across the line of scrimmage. “In your dreams, Tiki.” “Don’t blink, or you’ll miss me,” Tiki shot back. Ronde let out a big yawn, patting his mouth like he was bored. “I’m so scared.” Then came the “Hut! Hut!” of the quarterback, Matt Clayton, and Tiki took off like a shot. Ronde backpedaled a few steps, then turned and matched his brother stride for stride. Ronde did not look back for the ball. He kept his focus on Tiki, waiting for him to make his move. Ronde watched his eyes, knowing they would widen just before the key moment. Ronde had learned this trick last season. It was part of his education in how to cover wide receivers. But it sure helped when that receiver was your identical twin. He and Tiki knew each other inside out, backward and forward. They didn’t just look alike, they thought alike. Ronde could have covered Tiki with his eyes closed. Sure enough, ten yards downfield, Tiki’s eyes widened for the briefest instant. On cue, he faked to the outside, then cut to the inside, straight across the field. Matt Clayton had already let the ball fly, a bullet speeding toward its appointed meeting place with Tiki’s chest. But Ronde was one step ahead of them both. He cut in front of Tiki, leapt into the air, and with his outstretched fingertips, knocked away the ball! He landed hard on the grass, but it was worth it to hear Tiki’s disappointed groan. “Oh, man! You’re a pest, Ronde!” “I try,” Ronde replied, grinning as Tiki reached out a hand to help him up. “Man, I’m glad you’re on my team,” Tiki said, shaking his head. The boys trotted back to the line of scrimmage, where their friend and practice partner, Matt Clayton, was waiting for them. “Awesome coverage, dude!” he told Ronde. “Did you spy on us in the huddle?” “No way,” Ronde said, still smiling. “I just knew.” “He finishes my sentences for me all the time,” Tiki told Matt. “No, you’re the one who does that!” Ronde protested. “You both do it,” Matt said, laughing. “I’ve heard you. It’s weird.” All three boys were wearing their old blue Hidden Valley Eagles uniforms from last season. Tiki wore number two, while Ronde had number five. Ronde wondered if the school would retire the number nine now that, starting tomorrow, Matt, last year’s Roanoke Reporter All-World quarterback, had graduated and was moving on to Cave Spring High School. In Ronde’s opinion, Matt deserved the honor of having his number retired. He’d broken every Hidden Valley record for passing. During the Eagles’ run to the District Championship this past season, college scouts had come around to see Matt play—and the ninth-grade wonder hadn’t disappointed them. This would be their last practice together for two years, until the twins made it to high school and they were all reunited. And starting tomorrow, for Tiki and Ronde, it was back to school—back to the Eagles for another season, this time without Matt as their leader. “Why’d you have to go and graduate?” Ronde asked Matt. “Now what are we going to do for a quarterback?” “You guys’ll be fine,” Matt assured them. “The Eagles are even better and deeper this year. And if you’re worried about Cody Hansen, don’t be. He’s a great athlete, and he’s got a great throwing arm. I saw him play Peewee League, back when he was in sixth grade.” “He didn’t play so great last year when he was subbing for you,” Tiki said. “Don’t worry,” said Matt. “He just couldn’t handle the pressure of coming off the bench. He wasn’t prepared to be a starter, that’s all. He’s much better than he showed last year. You’ll see.” Ronde had to admit it was true. He and Tiki had been subs last year too. And when they’d gotten their chance to play, they’d had their moments—but they’d also made bad mistakes. This year would be different. As eighth graders and second-year men, the twins would be key starters—Tiki at halfback, Ronde at cornerback. The team would be counting on them—and Ronde was sure he and Tiki had the talent to carry the team to victory. He just wasn’t so sure about Cody. “Trust me, it’s going to be fine,” Matt said as they lined up for another pass play. “I mean, just think—last year, you two guys barely played! That alone is going to make the team so much better. And remember, we won the District Championship last year. So . . . can you say ‘State Champions’?” “Man, don’t jinx us,” Tiki said. “It’s bad enough you’re gone, and we have to put up with that hot dog, Cody Hansen.” “Tiki, he’s just immature,” Matt said. “I was the same way in seventh grade.” “Like fun you were,” Ronde said. “You were never like Cody, so don’t even go there.” “True, he’s got better hair.” “Dude, you never say anything bad about anybody!” Tiki complained. “Stop being so nice. Cody is a ball hog, and that’s all there is to it.” “If that were all,” Matt argued, “Coach Spangler wouldn’t have made him the starter this year.” Ronde had to admit, there was truth in what Matt said. Coach Spangler was really smart, and he knew what he was doing with his team. “I’m telling you,” Matt assured them, “as long as Spangler’s in charge, the Eagles are going to win. His teams have made the playoffs seven out of eight years since he became coach. He can get the best out of anybody.” “Even Cody?” Ronde asked. “Even Cody,” Matt said. “He’s talented. He just needs to get some experience.” “And a better attitude,” said Ronde, rolling his eyes. “Man, you got that right. Cody’s a head case,” Tiki complained. “He thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips.” “I saw him the other day in Kessler’s, bragging about how we’re going to dominate this year,” Ronde said. “I hate to hear that stuff, you know? It’s bad luck to run your mouth like that.” “Don’t worry so much,” Matt said. “Hey, think about me—I’m losing the coach who taught me everything I know!” “Aw, man, I pity you,” Tiki said, pretending to play the violin. “I’m about to start crying,” Ronde joked. “Come on, yo—let’s play some football! Show me something I haven’t seen, dude.” “All right, now you went and made me mad,” Matt said, smacking the football between his hands. “Let’s go. You’re toast, Ronde.” Matt put his arm around Tiki and whispered the play into his ear. Tiki lined up, and Ronde saw the corner of his mouth curl up into a secret smile. They’re up to something tricky, he said to himself. “Hut! Hut-hut!” Matt dropped back as Tiki took a darting step forward. Ronde dropped back into coverage, but Tiki was only faking a forward move. With Ronde back on his heels, Tiki stopped and turned to face Matt. Matt tossed him a quick lateral, then raced downfield, and before Ronde could recover, Tiki threw the ball into Matt’s waiting arms! “Touchdown!” Matt yelled, spiking the ball and doing a crazy little song and dance in the end zone. “Oh, yeah—go Ma-att, it’s your birthday . . .” Ronde wasn’t thrilled about being beaten on the play. But Matt’s celebration was so corny, he couldn’t help laughing. Hotdogging wasn’t Matt’s style at all. He never got into that sort of thing, like so many other players did. When he threw a touchdown pass, Matt just raised his arms in the air and yelled “YES!” Ronde admired that about him. Unlike some people, Matt Clayton was a class act. “I’m hungry,” Tiki said. “My stomach’s talking to me. It’s saying, ‘Let’s go get some lunch!’” “I’m in,” Matt said. “Kessler’s?” “Yeah, baby,” Ronde said. “I’m up for a burger and a double-thick shake.” “Trying to bulk up?” Matt teased. Ronde and Tiki were small for their age—at least compared to the rest of the football team. Matt, already over six feet tall, towered over them. Someday, Ronde thought, he’ll be a star college quarterback. He and Tiki would be stars too—but only if they kept getting taller, bigger, and stronger. Burgers and shakes might not be health food, Ronde figured, but they were a sure bet if you wanted to gain weight. Kessler’s luncheonette was an old-fashioned soda shop that had been there for over fifty years. It was only a block from Cave Spring High School—Matt’s new home. The twins had come over here to practice with him on the high school field—even though it was also the home field of Cave Spring Junior High, one of the Eagles’ main rivals. The three friends sat on swivel chairs at the counter and made fast work of their food and shakes. They were just about done eating when the front door swung open and in walked Cody Hansen. “Yo, gentlemen!” he called out to them, raising a hand in greeting. “What’s shakin’?” “We are,” said Tiki, lifting up his shake to demonstrate. “Hey, are you guys psyched for this season or what?” Cody asked, high-fiving the twins. “We’re going all the way to the State finals this year, dudes.” Looking at Matt and raising an eyebrow, he added, “We’ve upgraded at all the skill positions—like quarterback.” It was a dig at Matt, and Ronde and Tiki both knew it. Ronde winced, feeling for Matt. But he needn’t have worried—Matt Clayton was not the type to take an insult lying down. “Cody, my friend,” he said, “you’ve got all the skills, but you’ve still got a lot to learn. Why don’t you win a game or two for the team first, before you start shooting your mouth off?” Cody turned away from Matt and back to Tiki and Ronde. “Hey, you dudes want to throw it around? The field’s empty.” “Uh, no thanks,” said Ronde. “We just got done—” He was going to say that they’d been practicing with Matt, but Matt interrupted him. “That’s a good idea,” he said, and took one last sip from his shake, draining it to the last drop. “You guys should get used to playing together.” He clapped Ronde and Tiki on the back. “See you guys around. Say hi to Coach for me, huh?” He dropped a few dollars on the counter and left, shaking his head. “Cody, man, why’d you have to diss Matt?” Tiki asked. “Chill, Barber,” Cody said, frowning. “Matt Clayton is ancient history. This year, I am ‘the man.’” Ronde sighed, rolling his eyes. He’d seen Cody Hansen act like this before. Cody wasn’t exactly modest—and he could be totally impossible when he got going. Maybe it was because his uncle Sven was once the backup quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, and his cousin Nels was a linebacker for Clemson. Cody had several family members who were well-known athletes, and he was always, always bragging about them. “That’s right, from now on, I am the straw that stirs the drink,” Cody went on. “In the Eagles’ nest, I am the Big Bird. It’s all in the genes, my friends. All in the genes.” Sure, he was hotdogging it, more to be funny than anything else. Just like when Matt Clayton did his little touchdown dance earlier that day. But for some reason, Ronde didn’t find Cody’s act the least bit funny. “You finishing that burger?” Cody asked him. Ronde looked down at the remains of his lunch. “No, man, I’m full,” he said. “You mind?” Cody asked. But even if Ronde had minded, it would have been too late. The rest of his burger was already stuffing Cody’s left cheek. “Mmmm! Good! How ’bout you, Tiki?” “Don’t be touching my food, man,” Tiki said, drawing his plate closer to him and farther away from Cody’s reach. “This burger is mine, understand?” “Whatever,” Cody said. “Come on, let’s get out on the field and toss it around.” “Not today, dude,” Ronde told him. “We’re tired out.” “We’ve been practicing all morning,” Tiki added. “With Clayton?” They nodded. “Forget him, will you? He’s yesterday’s news. I’m the guy you’ve got to work out with. This is our year, remember?” Ronde couldn’t argue with that. It didn’t matter that he liked Matt Clayton better. Cody was the leader of their team now, for better or for worse. Ronde just hoped it wasn’t for worse. •   •   • “AAAAHHHHRRRRGGH! Put me down, Paco!” They were all at the bus stop, clowning around while they waited for the bus to take them to their first day of classes. Paco Rivera, their old pal, was practicing his tackling techniques on Tiki and Ronde, who were much smaller than he was. Paco released his death grip on Ronde, who collapsed to the ground. “There’s got to be a penalty for crushing,” he said, rubbing his sore ribs. “Man, have you been pumping iron all summer?” Tiki asked. “My dad’s been working me out on the free weights,” Paco said. “Feel that muscle.” He made a muscle, and his biceps popped up about three inches. “Whoa,” said Tiki, feeling it and making a face like he was touching a cockroach. “That is just sick.” “We’re gonna have a monster team this season,” Paco said, grinning and nodding. “Can you spell ‘undefeated’?” “Hey, man, let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Ronde warned him. “We’ve still got to get out on that field and prove we’re the best.” “It’s a done deal, brother,” Paco assured him. “Did you hear that Cody Hansen went to his uncle’s football camp over the summer? He throws a perfect spiral now, every time—and he can throw it fifty yards!” Ronde would have bet it wasn’t true—probably just Cody bragging again—but he didn’t argue. The bus had arrived, and it was time to get on board for another year of school. They rode the five miles in what seemed like five seconds. By the time they’d finished saying hello to all their bus-mates from last year, they were already there! “Hey, you guys,” Paco said as they got off the bus. “There’s Coach! Let’s go say hi.” Coach Steve “Spanky” Spangler was standing near the steps that led up to the school’s main entrance. He was talking to Mr. Pellugi, his assistant coach, who was also a Phys Ed teacher. It looked like they were having a pretty serious conversation. “Maybe we’d better wait till after school,” Ronde said, holding Tiki and Paco back. But Paco wasn’t listening. “Yo, Coach!” he yelled, raising his hand for a high five as he approached. Coach Spangler looked up, seeming startled. He didn’t smile—just gave a little half wave and turned back to Mr. Pellugi, resuming their conversation. “Whoa,” said Paco, backing away and joining the Barbers as they headed up the stairs. “That was weird.” “They must be talking about something important,” Ronde said. “I guess it just wasn’t a good time to say hi.” “I guess not,” said Paco, but he didn’t sound convinced. Tiki was looking back over his shoulder at the two coaches, a worried expression on his face. Whatever it was they were talking about, Ronde thought, it definitely wasn’t something happy. Coach Spangler had his hand on Mr. Pellugi’s shoulder and was talking intensely. Ronde sure hoped everything was okay. It was way too early in the season for trouble to raise its ugly head.

The boys enter their second year of Junior High ready for their second season playing for football team, Hidden Valley Eagles. When their beloved coach needs to leave school the team is reluctant to accept the new coach, Sam Wheeler. Tiki, knowing Mr. Wheeler because he had him as a science teacher the prior year is ready to give him a chance. Coach Wheeler would do video sessions with the team which enabled them to see how other teams played which eventually helped them win and gain team acceptance.I think kids would like this book because it teaches them that you can still win even if you have a few loses.

Bought this so that some reluctant readers in my school would have one more book that they'd like and they did, in fact, like it! Much thanks for writing an engaging story that isn't so long it scares kids who aren't sure they like to read.

Easy read and keeps my son interested! He wants the entire set.

Students love the book series

My son hated reading. It was such a task to get him to read even with all the popular books among 3rd graders. He loves football so I tried these books and he has gone through 5 in the series so far.

This was a gift.

Perfect for the kids I read to at our local school!

great

Murder Madness is sheer craziness from start to finish...what a rush! Never slowing down to what's right (and even though Rick is in his "7th decade") the bad guys simply can't win. Jim handles his break with Temple with a maturity beyond his years. I'm glad Ellen is getting the slap she deserves for all the trouble she's caused. Kull is terrific with his almost paranormal response to Rick and the situations they encounter. The whole gang responds when billionaire brothers think they can eliminate Rick and Lo. FAIL! Sitting senators want a piece too but they ultimately end up the same way...dead. All of Mr. DeLeo's series are the best read ever. The stand alones are excellent and are not to be missed. If you've never read "Casserine" you're missing the perfect ending to those responsible for the world's enemies. Bernard, you're the best!

In the spirit of honesty - I loved the book. It’s fun to read about people my age who can still kick butt. But I also loved the more grown-up Jim. I’m glad he is approaching the vagaries of life with a positive mental outlook. Plus, he is turning into a kick a$$ teenager, which is always cool. So much literature gives us sobby, angst-ridden, self-involved teens instead of kids who are determined to make a difference in the world and work toward that goal.Think I’m too wrapped up in fictional characters? Why else would you read fiction except to rejoice in their lives and wish you could do what they do? Who wants to read about someone just like me with all my problems? I’d rather read about those who change this crazy world for the better. And enjoy a little mayhem along the way!

Murder Madness delivers the punch that we have come to expect from a master storey teller. We were treated to intrigue in romance based on teen interactions. De Leo deals with today's issues of bullying and courage. The aging Rick and Lois still get it done. But, the reality of age touches home. I related to this story at many levels. Enjoyable and thought provoking entertainment. Plus, Kull keeps me smiling. Great stuff.

The only thing that I can tell you about this book is that you need to download it and read it. It is the latest COMPLETLY satifying chapter in the Rick Cantelli, P.I. series. The book starts with a bang and continues right to the last page.Neither Rick, Lo, Jim or Kull miss a beat and the action hardly ever pauses much less stops. The only regret is that it will now be a period of time before the author releases the next book in this series or one of the other series he writes!!!!

Trouble between lovers who take a break from each other. Other teen problems with rebound plus bullying. Then there are the violent adult problems caused by the Illuminati which seem to have invaded all three of the author's major series.

As usual, Rick and Lo at their best! Adding Kull to these stories give it quite the punch. All the characters in the Rick Cantelli books are great. Bernard Lee DeLeo is a fantastic writer, keeps us readers on our toes. Anxious for the next one.

This book is the best one yet. The characters and adventures are exciting and and original. I wish I had just discovered Bernard Lee DeLeo now so I could look forward to having 53 great novels to read. These are the best “EVER”.

I love, love, love this series (as I do the others ). The oldsters somehow get themselves a lot of situations but I always get a real kick out of how they get out of them. Great reading for youngsters AND oldsters.
