After finding myself enchanted by the superb effort constituting James Sharpe's Instruments of Darkness: Witchcraft in Early Modern England, I was eagerly hoping for a repeat performance with The Bewitching of Anne Gunter. And he certainly delivered. Intended for the general reader; I can't state enough how exceptionally fun and informative this was to read, and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in Early Modern witchcraft persecutions. Kudos! Again, Mr. Sharpe!

Fascinating exploration of a case study in Britain that also explore the court system, culture, and social hierarchies that influenced the last period of the European witchcraft period.

Fascinating tail that uses facts to dismiss some of the preconceptions about the 17th century 'Witch-hunt' era often mis-portrayed in common culture. Priests, Archbishops and Kings were not all idiots and could recognise the pretense of a bullied Anne Gunter!

Dry in some spots but overall a decent read. I read this book for a class so I wasn't head over heels excited to read it but the professor could have chosen a worse book. I rented it for $6 for 30 days on kindle, a good choice if it's for school.

I found it interesting in the bore-you-to-death-with-source-reference-bombardment. To be fair though, that's just good from an academic standpoint, for the curious party who wants to research the case of Anne Gunter for themselves.

Interesting the first 100 pages then it gets dry

The Bewitching of Anne Gunther is a short book and a quick read that tells the story of one witchcraft trial and, yet, somehow encompasses a glimpse at a period of history. From the reviews from other readers I was not expecting much and was delighted that it was better than others have stated. It is light pop history but manages to touche on family relations, politics, views of witchcraft, village life (and disputes), poverty, and religion in the telling the story of how Anne Gunther and her father faked possession and witchcraft. This leads them (and the reader) from their small village to the court of King James I and then back again. A fun, light read.

About the Author

Gerhard K. Ackermann received his Ph.D. degree in astronomy from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. He then accepted a post with IBM in Germany and the United States, working in research and development. Here, he discovered the 'Narrow Channel Effect' within MOS-FET. In 1976, he accepted a professorship for physics at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, where he later became Dean of the faculty of mathematics and physics and finally president of the University, which he remained until his retirement in 2002. Professor Ackermann taught and researched at laboratories and universities in Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, and New York, and is still active working in holography. He is member of various societies, amongst others of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Jürgen Eichler studied physics at the Universities of Berlin and Freiburg and received his Ph.D. degree in nuclear physics from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. He then accepted a post with Bosch working on lasers and, at the same time, became a lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin. In 1973, he accepted a professorship for physics at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, where he later became head of the Laboratory for Laser Applications. For many years he has been doing research on topics of holography with Professor Ackermann. Professor Eichler was visiting professor at the University of Rio de Janeiro and at the University of California. He has published several books on holography, laser technology and medical engineering.

We have many dinosaur books aimed at children. At least a dozen. This one is our favorite when it comes to bedtime reading. The layout is terrific, and the illustrations are great. But what really sets this book apart are the stories. Although entirely fictional, obviously, they are grounded in science and bring the animals to life in my son’s mind far more effectively than the typical recitation of facts.Not that the facts are missing here! But my son adores the presentation and always asks for this book at night. Personally, I enjoy the geographically organized material.If your kid loves dinos, you cannot go wrong with this “Atlas”!

My five year old loves this book! I’d say this one is not quite as great as another similar book, but still much better than a lot of dinosaur books. The photos are very pretty which I enjoy and there is a lot of information. The layout makes some of it hard to read in dim light (we read it before bed) and it’s also a little bit less affective for reading comprehension. Overall it’s still a great book for a young dinosaur lover.

My 6-year-old grandson is mesmerized by these 2 books. The other one is the Atlas of Animal Adventures. He looks back and forth from the pages to the map to understand where in the world each animal lives (or dinosaur has been found). This is truly a very educational book. I highly recommend it.

We love Atlas of dinosaurs! It’s tall and has lovely illustrations. Lots of dinosaurs by area, and some funny additions to some random drawings that keep my kids interested and laughing (a random Dino wearing a hat, one eating a hot dog, etc)

Good, considering it's common core. I like the math terms cards you can cut out at the beginning of each chapter. Good visuals and good examples. However, some of the "what have you learned" questions? wow. Terrible word problems produce terrible answers. "How do you know your answer is right?" --> "I know how to count". Haha. But overall, good book.

I pretty much bought the wrong Copy! I didn't notice that some books say California in yellow under the word Math on the cover. In comparing them they are different. The book was in good condition and can diffently be used again in school or home.

Check my mail and happy this arrived way ahead of time:) My kid is using another version in class but this version will also help for practice at home.

We threw away our daughter's previous book prematurely and had to purchase another. I thought the price was very inexpensive and now we have something to help her with honing her skills over the summer.

When I first heard about this publication coming from two very well respected individuals I knew it would be good. However I did not anticipate how pragmatic it was in nature. Between insights based on incredible research conducted in the various case studies to the formulaic nature of thier findings, this book should be in possession of every type of professional looking to change their current processes to be more agile and quick to adapt in order to stay relevant. Also, to any CEO willing to embrace design thinking principles to ensure maximum success.

The grammar is good, but the sentences elongate, making it easy to get lost.

Thomas Lockwood and Edgar Papke selected an excellent headnote for their first chapter:"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand." I just read this book cover to cover in four sittings - mostly on airplanes. It was very informative, well written, and packed with great information about scaling innovation, corporate culture and organization alignment. Being a Director in high tech supply chain, this is extremely relevant to all my functions. Highly recommended reading.
