Their is also a chapter on orthogonal polynomials (Hermite, Laguerre and Chebychev). Would serve as a useful supplement to Byerly's classic text.Murray Spiegel was and is highly regarded as an author of "teach yourself" mathematics texts. But given that one can define spherical space theories a la Hilbert spaces mutatis mutandis which have different sets of forbidden pathological functions to the ones forbidden in Hilbert space theory, and therefore different general convergence boundary paradoxes, it behoves one to admit that these topics may be too advanced for physics and engineering students who after all are merely interested in practical matters. Projective geometry differential geometry the calculus of variations and Riemannian manifold theory all offer other approaches that suit a few problems for which one must find another textbook ...Hilbert spaces overly depend on every function has a rule and y = f(x) two dimensional thinking. BUY THIS BOOK if you are wading through these reviews in order to decide if you should buy this book and are trying to educate yourself on why the national debt matters. it is worth buying.I am an educated person yet not in areas of finance and economics. I found the book tremendously helpful to understand better concepts and issues on federal debt / deficits and hence our budget. I believe I went from reliance on anecdotal evidence and some of my own political biases on theses issues to enlightened to question far more thoroughly. Social Security, Medicare, entitlement programs, why debt and tax are not "four letter words", ... I am more well armed.I am a fervent independent and abhor being labelled a conservative or liberal yet I find the preponderance of conservative leaning criticisms in these reviews understandable if you're of that ideology and feel compelled to lash out at anyone who differs with your opinion I find them unwarranted in discrediting the educational merits and defensible data of the authors. This book had a as a goal to understand the debt and present regular large deficits from a historical perspective and it does that. Some valuable critical reviews point out relevant issues missing and I can buy that criticism. I was rather worn out after 234 pages so degree to edit for what audience you're after comes into play.The authors make it clear that on pg 186 heading into their chapter Where Do We Go From Here "We do not expect all readers to agree with us on how the deficit should be reduced; even those who share our views about the historical causes of our current and future deficits will have different visions for our society and the place of the federal government. Great quotes and summaries that capture the essence of the concepts, "fiscal policy is about ensuring that the government has the resources necessary to address current public priorities and respond to future emergencies".8. Explains the different roles of the government with a focus of course on finances.9. An evolution of economic policies. The economical philosophies of the Presidents built into the narration. Fascinating insights and approaches and the impact it had on society.10. A look at the modern antitax movement.11. Influential characters throughout history that had a major role on fiscal policy. People like Grover Norquist. The policy differences. The ideological differences.12. Taxes, taxes, taxes...a look at the various forms of taxation. Tax expenditures.13. I think overall, the authors do a wonderful job of moving the narration along.2. Some hardcore conservatives may have more objections than most. I felt the book was more centrist left.3. Economics is difficult. Some topics will still elude the layperson but overall I think this book gets it mostly right.4. A great notes section but a separate formal bibliography was warranted.In summary, I really enjoyed reading this book. It's just well written, educational and a book that delivers. I feel much more comfortable and better informed about the national debt. The excellent prose and the right level of economics makes this book a treat for anyone interested in learning about the national debt and the key terms and arguments associated with it. The authors provide a proposal of well thought-out list of recommendations to help control the national debt and secure our democracy. Perfect Haggadah for children. We were using it for a 4-year-old and 2-1/2-year-old who had never heard of Passover. They run around telling everyone it's time to eat the Matzah now. I love it when we share the wealth! Will not disappoint. It "passes over" some traditional parts, so you may want to add your own traditional songs, blessings, etc. if you want to elaborate. But with a 4 and 2 year-old it was PERFECT!

Sammy Spider is the best resource for teaching children about their Jewish heritage and culture. Colorful, easy to read and engaging, I absolutely recommend this book for preschoolers and their families.

This hagaddah does a wonderful job of synthesizing the story of Passover with the elements of the seder. This year, we were just the 3 of us so we could totally focus the seder towards my daughter, who just turned 6. In the days leading up to the seder, she wanted to go through the haggadah for 2 reasons: it really reads almost like a story book (and hence is fun to read), and it's very interactive (with songs for both the preparatory activities for the seder, and for the actual seder). This haggadah has the gorgeously rich illustrations of all Sammy Spider books. The simple songs that appear throughout are set to the tunes of well-known children's songs(like London Bridge).Some things that were very nice extras were: after telling the Passover story, it then has 2 pages dedicated to the answers to the 4 questions! (Hagadas normally ask the questions but don't have a specific place for reviewing the answers.) The section for the plagues was child-appropriate, focusing on just 4 of them that didn't involve death or blood(frogs, lice, locusts, darkness)and then, tactfully, reads, "Finally, after the last plague, he told Moses: Moses, Moses, I finally agree. Moses, Moses, your people can go free!"I was excited that my daughter could herself read a lot of the hagaddah out loud and be a real participant. Next year we will see how well we can incorporate the use of this hagaddah into a traditional, big seder where the grown ups are still using grown-up hagaddahs. Truth be told, I felt that this seder, while not including the commentaries of Rabbi Gamliel and such, had a big advantage for all ages: the salient aspects of the seder remained the focus. I believe that all the "required" elements were there (except washing hands), and they were center stage. To have a child who participated willingly and eagerly meant the world to me. Around the time of Passover, a friend asked my daughter what Passover was, and as she answered the question, I was floored to see that she had indeed grasped and retained the contents of the story. This would never have been so, had we used the adult hagaddahs this year. They say that the seder is supposed to be for kids/kid-friendly, and this hagaddah really makes it so!I also recommend Richard Codor's Joyous Haggadah. We used some parts of this one, like the songs after the meal (which is the one thing that's pretty much absent from Sammy's hagaddah). In the next few years, we might switch over to this one as my daughter's reading skills increase and I'm more comfortable discussing "death of the first born" with her.

I used this haggadah at my Seder with a seven and five year old. It was fun and educational.It had just enough tradition with a playful tone for children.

This was a great Haggadah for small children and their families. Our little ones were able to follow the story with help from their parents. The adults liked the short length. Overall we loved it and will use it again next year. I will be ordering more books.

Very cute book Pesach songs set to preschool tunes liked "This Old Man" and "London Bridge." I have a question, though - there is no tune suggested for the "chorus" in"Story of Passover" section. Has anyone figured out a tune that fits the rhythm?

But one day, when the mysterious and revengeful Simon Heap shows up, no one understands why he suddenly kidnapps Jenna. Septimus, agitated that no one believes him when he says Simon is now evil, goes off on his own to rescue Jenna from Simon's plot to return the evil Dom Daniel back to life. In 'Flyte', Sage continues Septimus' story with her trademark offbeat humor and quirky magic. All the little details that readers have come to love about her writing are abundant in this sequel, and all old favorite (and not quite so favorite) characters make reappearences. However, the middle book in a trilogy always suffers from some problems. The adventure feels very loosely created, with no defenite climax. The characters wander around from place to place in the supposed big finale for the last hundred pages, meeting and overcoming new obstacles just like a video game. The villain Dom Daniel was defeated so quickly with about a hundred more pages to go, that I felt confused about what was the climax and what wasn't. Also, in the first book, you felt like your were actually there with the characters on their adventure, but in 'Flyte' Sage sometimes opens chapters with brief descriptions of what happened to her characters simply so she can get them to their next destination. But, seeing as this is light fantasy meant for younger readers, 'Flyte' still is consistent and ejoyable enough to hold on to young and older readers' attention. And how can anybody not fall for Sage's wonderful characters, quirky magic, and fantastical world full of swimming bogarts and pet dragons? While somewhat sloppy in its plotting, 'Flyte' is still an enjoyable entry into the Septimus Heap series. I highly reccommend it to all readers who enjoy a little 'magyk' when it comes across them, and a good, solid read that entices their imaginations. I look forward to book three, and hopefully Sage will return to the more consistent plotting techniques that made the first book shine above the second.

I discovered the Septimus Heap series last fall and I just devoured the series. It is a unique and beautifully written series about a colorful group of characters that you quickly fall in love with. The character development is absolutely wonderful, full of unpredictable twists and turns. This sequel focuses on the beginning of the apprenticeship of Septimus Heap, and his oldest brother Simon's jealous decision to become apprentice for the evil and ultra creepy villain, Dom Daniel. This book has lots of graphic descriptions of Dom Daniel's evil powers, and many frightening scenes of Simon's kidnapping of his adopted sister Jenna, so I would recommend parents' previewing this book before allowing their child to read it.

“Flyte,” book two in the Septimus Heap Series, is a fasted paced read with action, humor, and a clever cast of characters. This book is terrifically entertaining. Fans of the first book will love the page-turning sequel to Septimus’s Story. When the evil brother Simon comes to the castle from the badlands, he does not intend to do good. He had learned new evils while he was gone. Septimus and his friend must find a way to stop Simon from doing his worst in the castle.

I wasn't quite as enthralled with the second book as I was the first (some of the inventiveness and cuteness seemed lacking just a smidgen) but it was still a good story.I felt it continued the story and plot well, holding fairly true to the characters and flavor of the first book.I only have a few... not complaints... but rather things that weren't quite up to 5 stars:I'm still awaiting further explanation of the magical world (though as it's only book two, I'm not too concerned). I think it's all there, it's just not entirely explained and I think it would be very interesting to learn.A few times I feel Sage has her characters act too young for the rest of their actions. Yes, the cast mainly consists of people under the age of 20, so it makes sense that they would act "young," but sometimes it seems a little out of place (but, not often enough for it to be distracting overall).Finally, (and yes this is super picky!), a few character traits were a tad annoying: i.e. how unbelieving the Heaps are to one of their son's actions, or how it appears that telling someone what to do firmly is all it takes to be a leader. I'm pretty sure that those weren't the intentions Sage had in mind - I'm guessing that she was trying to show more the undying love of a parent, and that leadership comes with maturity not age, but I'm not sure that it came off quite as well as some of her other messages.I was very pleased by some of the new characters and the growth of some of the others. I give Sage credit for not manipulating a plot to get her where she needs to go. She seems to have things well set up and a good idea of where the overall story needs to lead. The book isn't very predictable (happily) in most cases, and I was very curious to see how the story unfolded and it kept my interest to the end. I'm anxious to read the third book, so that's always a good sign.:)It's another nice fantasy story and it doesn't feel like a rehash of many of the other ones. Worth the read!:)

As an adult, I enjoy good juvenile fantasy and science fiction. The Septimus Heap series is well written and does not have the tendency to restate activities and character actions multiple times. Readers who enjoy references to passing gas and dragon poo will find plenty of that throughout the books. I particularly like the fact that Angie Sage always ends each book with a wrap up about all the characters and/or events that were encountered throughout the story.

The PRIMER system didn't seem much better than some of the "inferior" systems outlined in part 1, but it seemed way more complicated. I didn't get much from this book.

Another great book from Damon Zahariades. I appreciate that he's extremely clear and to the point, no fluff. I read through this book once, but I intend to read through it again soon and journal alongside it. I especially want to return to the section on creating a compelling why.I enjoyed the overview of the goal-setting paradigms already on the scene. It's obvious that the PRIMER method has been well-thought out, with attention given where some other systems appear lacking.The section on what to do if you fail to achieve a goal is also useful. Many goal-setting systems put blinders on when it comes to people who don't achieve their goals. Unfortunately, not talking about it doesn't make it go away!

This book goes through several different goal setting methods and explains the good, the bad, and the ugly. Then it explains why the P.R.I.M.E.R. method is the best!

This book will guide you to set your goals with an instant applicable ideas. It has no long theories that will bore you and lose your interest. It will give you new better alternative to other productivity-related strategies which allow you to compare and contrast and help you to come up with better decision to your goal-setting.

PRIMER basically the strongest points from known systems, which is support better the human mental behavior. Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in return for a review. Issues I had with the book:1) Author (correctly, I think) outlines primary challenges with goal setting as internal issues in managing fears, doubts, expectations, etc. and external issues like appropriately thinking about attendant sub-tasks and time/energy considerations. This book somewhat takes for granted that you've addressed these issues before launching into a new goal setting method. If you haven't addressed those issues beforehand, I don't think reading a new method will make a ton of difference to you. If you need to address those issues, there are other books that you'll probably want to check out first.2) It's a silly thing, but I absolutely cannot remember what PRIMER stands for. Maybe everyone else can instantly recall it and I'm on my own, but this is not an option for me to think through goals and ideas while on a train or otherwise someplace where the book isn't open in front of me.It's not a bad book, and I appreciate the layout and logical buildup to the offered solution. However, if you genuinely feel like you're having trouble setting sufficiently audacious and/or realistic and/or deeply personal goals, I don't know if this will change much for you.

The first thing you need to know about DC Comics is there are different continuities with the characters. This book ignores that and throws all the continuities in a blender. This book would NOT help a young reader get into DC Comics because the content is contradictory to how the comics are structured. The kid would be totally confused by this book. Also, this book focuses on the male characters and ignores or under-represents most female characters.The art is overall very nice. And there's tons of Batman stuff. I was annoyed that Cassandra Cain is the Batgirl the editors chose to focus on, especially since she hasn't been Batgirl for ten years and two other characters have taken the mantle since then. Also, Cain is now called Black Bat - so why wasn't that mentioned? Barbara Gordon (the original and current Batgirl) is pretty much ignored, getting only two brief mentions and an apology image at the end of the book. And if you want to know anything about Mera from the new Aquaman movie, you're out of luck. Her name is mentioned in passing only twice, and there's only one tiny image of her in a collage.I wouldn't give this book to a kid or an adult.

A good quality DK book with colourful illustrations and plenty of info on Superheroes, Supervillains, Teams (Justice League etc.) . The layout is attractive and busily packed with illustrations, 'Did you know?' text boxes and speech bubbles and it kept a 9 year old quiet for a 2 hour car journey. Because of it's layout you can dip in an out of any page or choose to read it cover to cover. The detail on each character/world etc. isn't extensive but it provided some discussion and interest in the characters he didn't already know.I notice that some reviewers have said it's not for 'serious fans' but it's aimed at children and as such it's a really good introduction to characters they know already but also ones they've yet to 'meet'.My faves (Deadman, Zatanna etc.) were all there so I was happy :)

A really great guide for those how want to know more about DC characters & their universe.
