I highly recommend it if you are new to or just visiting Tucson.

This is a small guide book that easily fits into your daypack or jacket pocket and details short hikes in the Tucson area. It's a small price to pay for the confidence that you are on the right trail (and will be able to find your way back to the car).

This trail guide is a great size (4 1/4" x 7") so it's easy to carry. The hikes are organized well and the trail descriptions are well done. Directions to the trailhead are clear. One major shortfall - it gives no elevation change for any hike. It adjusts the hike difficulty level and adds "... due to elevation change." Had I known that I would not have bought this guide.

Well organized, with a good format, informative and accurate. We used it to zero in on the best hikes wherever we were.

Small book that you can take with you when you are searching for that perfect hike. Just wish it had pics.

Nice Hiking Book, Yes, just as described.

This could've been a nice little booklet for people looking for easy/accessible hikes in the Tucson area. Virtually all of the hikes in here are classic/must-do hikes. The problem is that the information given is not necessarily accurate. Fee information and the dog-friendless is especially inaccurate. For instance, several hikes in here say that dogs are allowed on leash when dogs have not been allowed for many many years. Dog-owners would either be disappointed or need to check with other sources (but then, why buy the guide). Similar problems are found throughout the book. An inaccurate guide is worse than no guide.There are superior Tucson area hiking books out there. Maybe not as cheap as this one, but then you get what you pay for.

These stories are nice because they are short and sweet, which doesn't allow kids time to get bored and in fact leaves them asking for "just one more!!". The messages are subtle, so it doesn't feel preachy although it is giving very powerful messages. The way that Bunjitsu Bunny is presented is perfect for my 6 y.o. daughter. She always wants to be the best at everything, and Bunjitsu Bunny is a great example of humble confidence. I will be buying more books from this series, as we finished this one within a couple nights.

My 6 year old son likes this book, despite the bunny being a girl. He reads well but has difficulty understanding and explaining sequence of events and main ideas sometimes. The content is not too difficult and has meaningful lessons that we can discuss afterwards (unlike the other books he reads that are about farts, boys pulling pranks, etc.) It's great because the chapters are more like mini books, so he can read one day and then come back to it later and not have to remember what the story was about.

My 6 yr old son who is in karate class LOVES this whole series (so do I)!. Every chapter is a lesson. "Bunjitsu is not just about kicking, hitting, and throwing... It is about finding ways NOT to kick, hit, and throw." That is an important lesson for all kids to know, but especially those who are in martial arts.

When the bunny was knocked down he was really strong and got back up. It made me want to be the bunny. There was a promise to be made to be a good artist, to make someone smile, be friendly to a friend. I really liked this book I would like to read more about Bunjitsu Bunny.This review was written by my grandson.

I think these books work well for 6-8 year olds. I like them because they offer a different way of viewing things. A different perspective. Wonderfully illustrated for kids.

These stories are the best. My 7 year old loves them because bunnies + ninjas = awesome in his book. I love them because all of the stories teach important life lessons.

My grandson adores this book. It arrived quickly and as expected.

The dog chewed a copy so we had to have another. There was a shipping delay, but the book was fine.

The author does take a while to get around to giving practical exercises (not until chapter 5), but the instruction is, as the title implies, direct and practical, and the preceding 4 chapters give only information that is truly necessary for proper understanding of what you're doing. But there is one criticism that does still stand, and this is not criticism of the author's content, but of the poor quality of the binding. In the first week after receiving my purchase, the binding began to separate.

Great read

A sad but compelling story. Definitely worth the read.

I first heard of this book while I was actually in Thunder Bay. My motherâ€™s family is from there and I literally spent weeks there every year since I was born. I am 30 nowâ€¦wow Iâ€™m old. Thunder Bay is well known for its racism towards First Nation Natives. Itâ€™s a very segregated places to live, which brings me to this book. Thunder Bay has had horrific suspicious murder of both young men and women in the community. The books author gives an amazing glimpse into the women that were murdered, something that some who live in Thunder Bay, wouldnâ€™t want you to know. As a visitor and photographer it haunts me to have learned about this growing up. Family and friends that are Native paint a real picture of how racist Thunder Bay is and how there continues to be murders of young Native men in the area. I canâ€™t rave about this book enough, as it gives insight into the truth. As a photographer, when I go to Thunder Bay, the first thing I try to observe is the segregation and mistreatment of the Native population in Thunder Bay. I donâ€™t know if it would ever happen but I would love to do a photo documentary on what truly goes on in the city. Read the book, itâ€™s shocking whether you are from Thunder Bay or not as many Natives go through racism on a daily basis. Thunder Bay has been my second home which I will continue to visit multiple times a year.

Great story, contemporary issue

Important issues are addressed in this book, but the writing is mediocre and ham-fisted.

This book deals with the deaths of seven Canadian Indigenous children who were sent to Thunder Bay, Ontario to further their education. Instead they found death and their murders still await resolution. It's a tough book to read and I had to put it down a time or two but it's well worth the read.

How do the authorities respond when there is a report of a missing child? How different is that response if the child is in his or her teenage years. How different is it if the child is Caucasian or Native American? According to Toronto Star reporter / author Tanya Talaga in her book â€œSeven Fallen Feathersâ€ â€“ significantly different, at least in Thunder Bay, Ontario (Canada). Because of that difference, the author contends that that 7 high school students from Canadaâ€™s indigenous peoples are dead due in large part to the lack of concern demonstrated by the civil authorities. Some of those young men may have frozen to death due to their fleeing racial bullying.In â€œSeven Fallen Feathersâ€, author Talaga patiently tells the story â€“ not so much of the deceased young men, but of the community that provided insufficient support for those who left the reservation to earn an education from their entry into the community until well after even the most casual observer would be concerned that something bad had happened to them. The story is well researched and patiently told â€“ and it makes the case directly and indirectly that the issue goes far beyond the borders of the Lake Superior shoreline community.I found the book to be well researched and well written. Given the topic, I cannot say I â€œenjoyedâ€ it â€“ that would be the wrong adjective. However, her words, structure, and pacing made the book feel more like a page-turner novel than the dry non-fiction work that it could have been in the hands of a less capable writer.RATING: 5 stars. The book made me think, and definitely did not bore me.POSTSCRIPT: I sat next to a Canadian woman on a flight; she saw me reading this book and inquired what it was about. I summarized the premise, and mentioned the difficulty of having to move to a strange city to attend high school. She replied, â€œIf â€˜theyâ€™ hadnâ€™t burned down their high school, â€˜theyâ€™ wouldnâ€™t have to move!â€ (Ms. Talaga mentioned the fire in her book â€“ I did not bookmark it and could not find the reference on a quick thumb-through .) I realized that as long as the actions of a few individuals are automatically projected across an entire population, as implied by the word â€˜theyâ€™ in that statement, Ms. Talagaâ€™s efforts in writing this book are necessary â€“ but sadly insufficient to solve the racial divide.

An absorbing story of how one man reinvented epidemiology by measuring everyone. EVERYONE. Every illness, disability, impairment and death and attributing each to the proper cause. Unbelievably this had never been done before.The book explores the politics behind disease measurements: governments want to appear to be more effective than they are while charities want to exaggerate the magnitude of problems to make their goals seem more urgent and more worthy of dollars spent. As an example there were so many deaths "claimed" by different charities as belonging to their pet cause that the deaths claimed exceeded BY FOUR TIMES the actual deaths on the planet! This one project suddenly leveled the playing field by assigning each death (illness/injury/etc) around the world one cause.Arguably, there is often more than one cause per death. Someone can be suffering from malnutrition which leads to poor outcomes when disease strikes. Also, if an overweight, sedentary person passes away- what killed them? The back pain that kept them sedentary? The diabetes that came from poor diet? Or the depression that kept them from seeking healthcare? The adjustment that the GBD uses to account for these multiple causes is the DALY, a simple measurement of impaired years that precede the actual death. For the first time we can identify a single cause of death and still acknowledge contributing factors.The magnitude of this project is mind boggling- the team basically went around the WHO, the CDC, and many governments to dissect the immense data with people on the ground. A triumph.Inspiring story, well written. Kudos to Smith!

As a high school social studies teacher who teaches about contemporary global issues, I am always searching for books, films, and articles that will engage my students and offer them insight into international topics. Over the years, I have been fortunate to encounter plenty of texts that captivate a significant portion of my students. Rare, however, is a book like Tracy Kidderâ€™s Mountains Beyond Mountains, Katherine Booâ€™s Beyond the Beautiful Forevers, or Nina Munkâ€™s The Idealist that provokes lively discussions among students of all backgrounds.Two weeks, I read an op-ed piece by Jeremy Smith in the New York Times that did a superb job of laying out perhaps the greatest challenge within global health: How do we know what our priorities ought to be? Smith raised a series of provocative questions: How do we compare the impact of one disease or ailment to another? Should we trust the figures of governments and NGOs who presumably have reasons to skew these figures? Is it possible to do a thorough accounting of everything that leads to injury and/or death throughout the world? Impressed by Smith's essay, I read it with my students the following day. In short, the discussion was superb as it not only provoked the students to reconsider their preconceived ideas about global health but it also inspired them to want to know more about Smith's argument that it was indeed possible to gather comprehensive data on what ills us as a species.Given the dynamic discussion, I did something that I have not done before in my fourteen years of teaching: I ordered a class set of a book that I had not read. When our class started reading Smith's book, Epic Measures: One Doctor. Seven Billion Patients the following week, it was immediately clear that this gamble had paid off. The students have been captivated by Smith's tale of Chris Murray, the astonishingly ambitious global health figure who has been the driving force behind the Global Burden of Disease project. As depicted by Smith, Murray is a study in contradictions: an iconoclast who seeks to work within the largest global health institutions and who is as capable of charming his peers as he is of alienating them. While Murray does not conform to our sense of how a humanitarian operates, this thrilling book offers us an insider's account of how he spearheaded the project that will almost surely save more lives than any innovation (vaccine, toilet, etc.) in public health history.I could not recommend this book more highly.

This book was excellent for giving perspective on world health.The eye openers for me were:[1] Statistics are really difficult to gather with accuracy and reliability.[2] Many "world health professionals" are more concerned with statistics which justify the funding of their program rather than serving the acculal needs of people.[3] Conditions that don't kill but reduce the quality of one's life need to be factored into this calculation.

Christopher Murray's work at Harvard, WHO, and now IHME (UW-Seattle) on the global burden of disease deserves a well-written, popular treatment like this. Smith's writing and sequencing make for a fine, fast, informative read. Substantively, though, Epic Measures is missing a key story within the integrated "burden of disease" project: how to get disability and death on the same page of value so that the Disability Adjusted Life Year (DALY) unit Murray and colleagues use makes sense as a proper way to see the relative values of living longer and living with better quality of life. That large omission noted, however, this is a fascinating book.

The author has done an impressive job of not only presenting the history of the Global Burden of Disease study, but also the biography of Christopher Murray in such a way as to actually make the reader understand how something of this magnitude can be accomplished by just one man. Yes, Dr Murray had many many collaborators, but this global analysis could not have been done without him. This book itemizes everything that is wrong with science and everything that is wonderful about science. The author should be commended for presenting the facts in such a way as to make a fascinating and engaging read. I finished this book in one sitting and it was the best $27 I've spent this year.

I identify with a lot of themes and ideas that are mentioned throughout this journey of stories. The imagery provided really took me to the place, or emotion the theme is trying to convey. This read was refreshing, and meditative for my mind.

Always a pleasure reading his work. His eloquent way of expressing tough to tackle subjects is always a great read

The author continues to examine the many facets of love (I also have his Life in Lyrics). It's amazing how many ways Connor J Garrett looks at and describes love, which is fitting since it is the real subject of our existence. In his work, love is not just a romantic fantasy of heat and passion, longing and lust, heart and soul, agony and ecstasy. It is what he breathes daily. It is the work of his life, and the work of humans, to apprehend, experience, and understand love. There are also poems about being a writer and the creative process and love of family and places and life as it unrolls before us. Underneath everything is the quest to understand love before we run out of time. About half way through I started hearing John Lennon singing "Love Is All You Need" in a corner of my mind. Except I heard it as Love Is All There Is. Amen!

I seriously canâ€™t say this enough- if you love words and you enjoy fresh new writing that isnâ€™t full of cliches, you need to buy this. I loved Life In Lyrics so when this came out I knew it would be good. Connor is great at writing something that makes you feel & thinkâ€” something I donâ€™t get from the IG â€œpoetsâ€ of today. Add this to your collection!!

Become the Fool weaves honesty and vulnerability through word after word in this page turning exploration of consciousness and human nature. Brilliant writing - exploring the different facets of individual identity and elements of self acceptance from the viewpoint of one positioned outside of societyâ€™s traditional boundaries and hierarchies.

Connor takes the reader on a magical journey through his effortless creativity in Become the Fool. The words dance on the page as if animated music notes filled with wisdom and wonder. Thank you for the endless inspiration!
