About the Author

Joan Sweeney grew up in Toledo, Ohio. She used to spend Saturday mornings taking free art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. She has three "grown-up" children and five grandchildren. She wrote many more books after she first wrote Me on the Map. I used this in my classroom. My students and I both enjoyed the book.

We're using this book for a home school curriculum. The book does a great job of explaining maps and the artwork is cute, however for a book about maps, they mixed up two states on the United States map (p. 11). Alabama and Mississippi are switched. If you're using this book to teach, just be aware. I went and double checked all the other states that are easy for someone not from that region to mix up (the rectangular states, and maybe N.H. and Vt) and they're correct. A map book should have accurate maps...
